Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ear:
Welcome to the Tucson High Cactus Chronicle! We look forward to having you on staff this season.
If this is your first time in this class, I would like to let you in on a few things.
First, I will be your favorite teacher this year. But I will also be your least favorite at times. My life runs on headlines and deadlines, and so will yours. My life revolves around quality work and yours WILL meet my expectations. I have a vision of what I want to see happen, and you WILL make it happen.
:D
So here's a few helpful tips:
Meet your deadlines. As long as you do, we don't have a problem. When you start missing deadlines, it's not just your editor who will find you.
Win The Day. Yes, it's from Oregon Football- and yes, I'm a Wildcat fan. But at this point, understand the message: Give your best EVERYDAY. Every hour you are in my class, you will give your best effort. Like football, we are a team. Every person on that team gives 300 percent, EVERYDAY. We have quite a task on our hands, let's win the day.
Eye on the Prize. Our staff is here to win awards, which means you are here to win awards as well. Though the school year is 185 days (not that I'm counting) you need to be aware that this is a 185 day project- to be the best newspaper in Arizona. If you come in and just are not feeling 'it' that day, refer to my second tip.
These are the building blocks to making the Chronicle a success, along with your grade a success. If you can't follow the rules, this is not the class for you.
This is the Tucson High Cactus Chronicle.
Welcome.
James Bourland
